Free tool: EntonnoirJuly 20, 2008, 13:22
This is unrelated with ChocoFlop but since it's hosted on the same site, I'll let you know that I just released Entonnoir, a freeware app to easily limit upload and download bandwith with a simple click. Get in on the newly created tools page. Back to Chocoflop coding now.

New server!July 20, 2008, 03:56
The whole website and its subsites have been moved to a new machine (a kimsufi dedicated webserver on OVH). As you can see the speed is now perfect :-) .. and I should really get to sleep. Chocoflop 0.84 will be released tomorrow I guess, with all the urgent bugfixes and lovely contextual menu goodness I have been working on.

Ok, I am getting a real machineJuly 19, 2008, 22:28
I tried for a time OVH's RPS servers (which are dedicated machines without HD, just an NFS share). It turns out they are terribly slow in practice... I'll get myself a KimSufi server instead (A real dedicated machine) and throw this shitty RPS out. My apologies to the users who have been unable to download the application because of this. Sigh. PS: I'll be releasing a new version tomorrow before my holidays end (there are some nasty issues in the latest release when adding filters on layer mask or quick mask).

Release 0.83 - Pressure, free layer masks and fixesJuly 15, 2008, 23:50
Here we are with a new holiday-time release: Changes:
- Fixes random lockups on mouseUp
- Pressure is back for all you wacom users out there!
- Pressure can now affect either size or opacity (or both)
- Painting fixes for various cases (layer masks on rotoscaled layers with offsets and such stuff)
- Layer masks can now have offsets (be moved independently from layer itself) and be locked
- Painting should now be smoother, especially with pressure
- Selection position is updated live in Inspector while dragging
- better caching for rendering
- and many small enhancements and bug fixes
Update, enjoy (and hum, donate?).

ChocoFlop (and ImageMagick): all the PNG export you can dream ofJuly 13, 2008, 21:51
I recently read this post about the various PNG export formats handled or not by industry standard software (Fireworks and PhotoShop).
Well, mind you, the new version of ChocoFlop allows you to save all possible variants of PNG. Both PNG 24 bits and PNG 8 bits can now have either an alpha channel or a threshold-based one-color transparency.
Here's a screenshot of ChocoFlop's web export exporting an 8 bit png with an alpha mask. (Note that these may not display well in crappy browsers such as IE6).
Ain't that cool?

Release 0.82 - Longest changelog everJuly 13, 2008, 21:20
The changelog is huge on this one and you're welcome to update. Key changes:
- Scaling now feels natural (envelope based for filters, text and PDF) with all layer types (text, pdf, filters, bitmap)
- Supports all-in-one ImageMagick package download.
- New inspector allows to type in either size in pixels or in percent
- Simplified layer properties (removed redundant items already in inspector)
- All layer types can be scaled to negative sizes (mirror effect)
- Optional definitive apply of rotation and scale
- Faster PDF layers
- Scaling has correct proportions with shift and scales from center with alt
- Arrows adapt behaviour (move selection if using selection tool and move layer when using move tool)
- PNG and GIF can be saved interlaced
- WebExport PNG can be saved in 24 bits and have alpha or indexed transparency. Can also save 412 colors for example (not limited to 256).
- Feature: Save for web with selection
- New app icon.

First post on new serverJuly 8, 2008, 20:54
Obviously this post would appear only on the new server. If you're reading this it means the DNS are finally updated. Please notify me if you encounter problems with some things such as validating licenses. I am not certain it works perfectly for users using eastern european encodings in their name. The new server host the main website (and shop) , the downloads and the bugs reporting system (Mantis). I still left the wiki and the forum on Dreamhost for security reasons. PS: And yes, release 0.82 is coming indeed, sometime this week.

Moving to France!July 7, 2008, 06:45
I don't know how many times I complained about Dreamhost being down, but today I finally found the courage to move chocoflop.com elsewhere. It's just pisses me off me when I finally find the time to work on ChocoFlop and my Mantis bug reporting system is inacessible. Sadly this seems to happen on in every 3 times I try to update a bug. I don't want to know how often this has prevented a user from reporting a bug or downloading the app. So I'll be moving this website to OVH.com (a french hosting company I have happily been using for my work) and will run this on a dedicated server (actuallly it's what they call a private server: a dedicated machine with no HD with an NFS share instead). I hope everything will be better over there. I'll keep dreamhost for all the parts that can easily get owned (forum, wiki) and move the rest on the new server. PS: Yes, the new release will be here this week, featuring loads of improvements.
