Got hacked again :-(

After the bad experiences I have with Wordpress 1.x I had had in the past with chocoflop.com (bad as in defaced), I decided to only use my custom code for this website. That proved over time to be a safer solution... with one exception.

Unfortunately this poor server also hosts the Mantis Bug Tracker I used to track bugs for ChocoFlop. On Sunday evening, the Mantis installation which hadn't been updated for four months (a practice also known as suicide by negligence) got exploited to execute some nasty code that allowed it to create a cronjob for one of the several php-cgi webuser which then launched massive portscans.

After about 15 minutes of that treatment the security system of my hosting company (OVH in France, which I still recommend) detected the attack and cut off my machine. It took a while but I was finally able to get back control of my machine and clean it up. I guess it could have gone faster if I had taken the time to call rather than write to support, but hey, I have a day job too.

On the bright side data, other than that of the bugs database (which was already public) appears to have been accessed.

As a result, for the time being the bug database is not public anymore. So if you find a bug, welll, drop me a mail :-)

PS: I promise not to install on this machine any of those php open-source apps that I never manage to update often enough to avoid such problems.

New wiki about iPhone app store review policy

If you're an iPhone app developer you might be interested to know that I have setup a wiki to help people who have apps waiting for review for months.

The point is simply to find the common characteristics between the apps that are put in this 'wait mode' which is code for non-official rejection.

ChocoFlop article deleted from Wikipedia :-(

Well, it looks like for some reason the Wikipedia page about ChocoFlop was deleted last November.

The reason being:
Article does not explain how this software is notable (WP:N), or provide any references from reliable sources

Never heard about this policy.. but hey at least the pages for other CoreImage apps are still there ...

Does anyone have any reliable source that proves that ChocoFlop is notable ? :-)

Release 0.905 - More fixes for selection

Here a quick bugfix.

This release finally fixes issues with the selection on intel GMA chipsets and possibly others. Please reports in the comments.

I also cleaned up some of the brush painting code to make it run slightly faster (on my Radeon X1600 at least. It is still painfully slow on a GMA 950).

Time for bed!

Selection still not working on Nvidia powered macs and or 10.4?

I have had a report of the new selection system still not workin on some nvidia-based macs and on gma950 running 10.4.11 (but it works fine on 10.5.6 on a intel GMA 950 in my mac mini).

If you are experiencing problems with the selection not appearing (see if the size is correct in the inspector) please comment with your machine specs.

That said Happy new year! I am hoping to fix this when I get access to some of the affected machines (and if I don't die of cold or overdrinking in a chalet in the swiss mountains).

PS: There's a new RSS feed now with all the comments posted on this blog. There was already one with the posts.

Release 0.903 - Important bug fixes

The christmas release is here with a lot of bug fixes and enhancements:

drawing selection doesn't lag anymore when starting on large images
color picker is faster to start when dragging on large images
fixes crashes on closing document
fixes errors with selectionts (find bounds had small rounding errors that caused very wrong sizes in some cases because 0 values were not detected). Also caused problems when cropping to visible and alike.
fixes several deadlocks in selections
fixes crashes related to progress panels and threading (bad access)
only one progress panel shared for all windows
less memory usage (selection accumulator not created if not needed)
paintbrush right click behaviour is now configurable: menu, eraser or background color

Release 0.902 - Fixes for selection

There was a nasty bug in the previous release where any selection with a minimum X or Y value at 0 would return a very wrong selection rect (like -99999 pixels high!).

This is a quick fix for this.

Release 0.901 - Fixes for selections and Mac Minis, Macbooks with Intel GMA chipsets

Here's the results of a sunday's worth of hardwork:

Fixes the many issues (notably with selection and painting) related to the fact that the kernel to find bounds didn't run on Intel GMA based macs (mac mini, previous gen macbooks). It now forces use of the CPU renderer.
Fixes selection issues (invert wouldn't work)
Layer mask is correctly kept after creating a gradient inside a selection and clicking 'keep live'
navigation window now only hides if needed (if mouse moves over it while painting or alike)
Navigation box now correctly show/hides when needed
Dragging the view inside the navigation box works again
fixes "Trying to allocate huge accu" error when zooming
zoom animation is now time-based, not frame-based (which means it'll be smooth on a fast machine but not slow on a slow one, just choppier)
And a few other adjustments here and there

Please update and enjoy.
